Salvador Dali- Paintings and Design Analysis

The Persistence of Memory(1931)

A lot of Dali's painting were influenced and inspired by the landscapes of his youth. Several paintings were painted on the slope of Mount Pani, which was covered in beautiful umbrella pines at the time. Many of the strange and foreboding shadows in the foreground of many paintings is a  direct reference to and result of Dali's love of this mountain near his home. Even he had grown up, Dali continued to paint details of the landscape of  Ca talonia into his work, such as this famous product-The Persistence of Memory in 1931.

In this Dali's memorable work, indeed the one which he is associated to The persistence of memory. There was a craggy rocks of Cape Creus in the background to the right, it shows the rocks of his beloved Cape Creus jutting up in the picture. In the foreground, a sort of amorphous self portrait of Dali seem to be melt. There are three separate melting watch images in the foreground of the work. Salvador Dali was inspired with the melting watch because he saw a Camembert Cheese was softer in the summer heat. The melting watch is a symbol commonly associated with Dali's surrealism, and showed the irrelevance of time.
In short, this particular work is an important refferal back to Dali' Cantalan Heritage, it is important to him.

Element of Design

- line got straight and curve but clear.
-the shape is a bit strange but is in reality
-saturated and easily to define any of shape
-organized and solid
-do not have eye movement

Principle of Design

-Hierarchy,from behind to in front, will have background.
-it is Balance
-always creative and brain storming
-will think that why can draw like this
-the object size is sometime different
-Harmony

The Anthropomorphic Cabinet (1936)

In order to paint this figure of a woman half lying on the ground, Dali did several very elaborate preliminary drawing in pencil and ink. The first time Anthropomorphic Cabinet exhibited in London in1936 at Lefevre Gallery.

Old Age, Adolescence, Infancy (The three ages -1940)

This work "old age, adolescence infancy(The three ages) was completed in 1940, near the time when Dali and Gala fled from France in anticipation of the coming Nazi invasion. It was during this time that Dali was being primed by Gala to move away from his surrealistic root and towards more common  and traditional themes. The work utilizes Dali's now mature double imagery techniques to transform elements from the Catalan coastline into three separate and distinct faces that represent the three so called "ages" man.

The center face is the adolescent face, it formed from the combination of the towering cliffs in the backgroud and the figures of both Lucia(his nursemaid) and Dali himself, both with their backs to us. The cliffs both have an eye superimposed on them, and Lucia's clothing is creased in such a way that these elements combine to form the face of young man, perhaps in his twenties.

To the far right, the final face, that of the infant, is also formed from the combination of both scenery and a figure in the scenery. The cliffs to the far right form the edge of the face, while the figure of the netmender, sitting with her back towards us, helps to form up the nose, mouth and teeth of the smiling infant.
All together, these faces create an ambitious double image painting that makes extensive use of elements from Dali's past that were important to him. In many ways, he himself may have been trying to directly express how these elements had a profound effect on him, and were central to his being.

Surrealism---Salvador Dali Biography

Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali I Domenech is one of the famous members of the surrealism artists and he has enjoyed enduring public popularity. He was born in small town of Figueres, Spain. The young Dali attended the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. Early recognition of Dali's talent came with his first one-man show in Barcelona in 1925. He became internationally known when three of his paintings, including The Basket of Bread (now in the Museum's collection), were shown in the third annual Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1928.

The following year, Dali held his first one-man show in Paris. That year, Dali met Gala Eluard. She became Dali's lover, muse, business manager, and chief inspiration

He joined the surrealists, led by former Dadaist Andre Breton. Dali soon became a leader of the Surrealist Movement. His painting, The Persistance of Memory, with the soft or melting watches is still one of the best-known surrealist works.
As an artist, Salvador Dali was not limited to a particular style or media. The body of his work, from early impressionist paintings through his transitional surrealist works, and into his classical period, reveals a constantly growing and evolving artist. Dali worked in all media, leaving behind a wealth of oils, watercolors, drawings, graphics, and sculptures, films, photographs, performance pieces, jewels and objects of all descriptions.Dali expressed surrealism in everything he said and did. He was not just unconventional and dramatic; he was fantastic, shocking, and outrageous. Salvador Dali remains one of the great artistic innovators of all time, like Picasso, Matisse, Miro and Chagall, his place at the pinnacle of modern art history is assured.

As important, he left for posterity the permission to explore all aspects of one’s own life and to give them artistic expression. His excellence as a creative artist will always set a standard for the art of the twentieth century. His artwork and influences can be seen almost everywhere around the world.

WHat is Art moVEmEnt?

Art movement is described as a tendency or style in art of art that spans over a period of time that is subtly or distinctly different than another movement of art. Following by a group of artist during a limited period of time (usually a few months, years or decades) to build an art movement. Some art movement that have been influenced by another art movement show obvious similarities. It is interesting to study the differences between art movement and different period of art. Some of the common art such as modernism, conceptual art, pop art, optical art, impressionism and expressionism.

In art, the most I like of the art movement is surrealism, futurism and public art.

Surrealism
It is a cultural movement and began in the early 1920s. Surrealism works feature the element of surprise and unexpected object or position.Surrealism developed out of the Dada activities during World war 1 and the most important center of the movement was Paris From 1920, this art movement spread around the world, affecting the visual arts, literature, music and film of many countries and language.

Futurism
Futurism was an artistic and social movement that originated from Italy in the early 20th century. It emphasized themes associated with contemporary concept of future, including speed, technology, and objects such as airplane, spacecraft, car and industrial city.

Public art
Public art refers to work of art in any media that have been planned and executed with the specific intention of being sited or placed in the physical public domain, usually outside and accessible to all. The term is also applied to include any art which is exhibited in a public space including buildings.

For design class, difference between conceptual and perceptual

First of all,There are only two types of perception when we are drawing. The product we drew that we see and think can classify to perceptual art and conceptual art.

What is the differences between Perceptual art and Conceptual art? This is the question my Design class lecture throw out.

The whole idea is very easy.
Perceptual=Sensory;  Conceptual=Thought.

That is all,quite easy right?

Conceptual art is the expression by artist in which their special idea or concept. It must always be creative or takes shape in abstract. Artists rely on their thoughts and ideas to draw or sketch. The French artist Marcel Duchamp paved the way for the conceptualists, providing them with examples of prototypically conceptual works — the readymades, for instance. The most famous of Duchamp's readymades was Fountain (1917) . In 1970 Conceptual Art and Conceptual Aspects, the first dedicated conceptual art exhibition, was mounted at the New York Cultural Center.

Some of the famous artists:
Robert Rauschenberg(1953)
 Isidore Isou(1956)
 Henry Flynts(1963)
 Christopher Williams(1989)

Example of conceptual art

The German conceptual artist-HA Schult, there are hundred of statues made by garbage

The Japanese artist design the DOG hair style.

The Tung Tree Chair

Perceptual art are making some stimulation of our sensory like vision, touch, hearing. It is like lying us!!Besides,a lot of beginner drawers are lacked for the skill and experience, they always practice by seeing others draw. They will learn through this and create their own draw, in this case, perceptual art was succeed to heritage. Perceptual drawing is also important in this world, it makes our world look more beautiful. Most of the time, perceptual drawing is easier for drawer to learn because it will not be care of the meaning behind of the draw. The famous example of the perceptual art is op(optical) art.

Examples of perceptual art
op art(seeing the picture,u will find that the circle is turning)

Chapter 1-the beginning of every blog

There are total SIX thousand billion people in the world. I believed that everybody has own dream, own purpose to live in this unique earth. Based on the view of Erikson life span's theory, in adolescences period, people want to understand more about life, identify about who is he/she, asking why live in this special area, what is the meaning of life and what are their achievement.

Of course, every of us will dead. However, DEATH do not worth for me to expect or imagine because i cannot control it and that is meaningless for thinking, what i want to do is treasure everything in my eye, full of challenge, knowledge, creative and excitement will make me enjoyable in this world.  Audre Lorde said," Art is not living. It is the use of living."  In MY opinion, life must be full of FUN!!

I did a lot of fun things in my past years such as :
